Pros +
- The room was not only beautifully furnished but also functional and cozy. The hotel is well located in Thamel area and has on-site parking within its compound, making it convenient for car/taxi drop-off and pick-up without obstructing the busy, narrow street. Check-in and check-out were efficient.
- Helpful staff, historic building
- This was my second time staying at this establishment (Nepali Ghar), but first time staying in the Seto Ghar wing. The experience was just as good. Rooms are clean, beautifully decorated, modern bathrooms, and have luxurious bedding. The restaurant serves good, clean food, and is in a beautiful and serene setting. The breakfast buffet was great and my kids loved it! We also loved the daily complimentary tea and biscuits at the roof top lounge. Overall an excellent hotel and would highly recommend!
Cons -
- My room was above the restaurant and at times there was some smoke which seemed to come from the fireplace (not the kitchen smoke). Also, although not the hotel's fault, there was some loud nighttime noise from a nearby site during my stay.
- The room is historical but the vibe was really old. Also when showering, water dripped from two large linear cracks in the ceiling!
- Breakfast was quite disorganised with dishes running out and not restocked. Weird placement of things meant you had to hunt around for a glass, or milk for your coffee. Showers only tepid normally and very rarely actually hot…

Location is good. Cappuccinos were excellent

Pretty much everything. Staff, cleanliness, amenities, and location.
The only minor thing was that the toilet had trouble flushing.
The location is great and the rooms were very good. The room service was excellent.
Loved our stay here. We booked 3 nights but ended up extending to 5. Really lovely room and bathroom, the bed was so comfortable it was difficult to get up in the morning. We enjoyed the breakfast and having a drink in the evening at the courtyard bar. There was daily complimentary yoga every morning and a basic but perfectly functional gym. This place was a real treat after several weeks of trekking.
Slight smell from the drains in the bathroom. Nothing awful though.
We loved the location, the hotel facilities, the courtyard bar and restaurant areas, as well as the decor, comfy bed, and afternoon tea on the little roof terrace. The hotel is beautifully presented and the room was a great place to relax. The breakfast was an excellent selection of things and the customer service was great. The best hotel we have stayed at in Thamel in terms of the daytime experience.
Sadly the windows do not fit brilliantly and are only single glazed - given this is a historic property this is not a surprise but it meant there was little in the way of sound insulation. We had requested that we be given a quiet room - given the hotel is in Thamel and the comments about noise in other reviews, we expected a lot going on outside. But sadly it was worse than we anticipated. The first night was New Year's Eve which was always going to be loud, but on our second evening, our sleep was still disturbed by traffic noise and people out and about outside. It's such a shame as we loved everything else about this hotel but because of the disturbed sleep we won't be returning.
Room and restaurant.
Expensive. Value for money not great.
Excellent staff and beautiful accommodations.
Unfortunately I felt that the room had some air leakage from outside which made it difficult to breath. I had to sleep with my mask on which was very uncomfortable.
Beautiful building and really nicely decorated rooms. The courtyard is great and peaceful considering the location and the staff were really generous and helpful
My original room in Seto Ghar was great but the TV didn't work properly (although a member of the staff spent a long time trying to fix it; it just didn't continue to work after this) the wi-fi was very patchy and difficult to use as well. The main complaint I had was with the noise from outside my room. There was an extremely loud club across the street from my room that stayed open til 5am every day of the week! The windows were double glazed and single glazed but it was not enough to keep the noise out and unfortunately made me unable to sleep for the first 3 nights I stayed here. As I was returning from a trek a few days later (the staff very kindly held onto some luggage for me between stays), I was offered a different room on my return and the noise problem was not an issue. It's a shame because the hotel is great, the staff are great and the rooms are nice but the noise was a huge issue that I don't know how it could be addressed. Bearing in mind that the hotel is in Thamel, some noise is expected but this was a bit too much for me.
This place is absolutely stunning!!! All staff are so helpful and professional, even security at the front who are so welcoming. The food here is delicious, and the breakfast had a great variety. The room i was in was immaculately clean and also the bed was so comfy. I honestly struggled to leave and walk outside of this hotel. Thank you Seto Ghar for such a comfortable and lovely stay!
Great hospitality after a 2am flight arrival, transfer was well organised. Comfortable spacious rooms. The gym was a personal highlight, one of the best. The outdoor restaurant was an amazing pre - or post hiking trek near the koi pond. Great breakfast. Allow luggage to be left during treks. I miss it already!
Nothing really.Only suggestion, I felt the buffet breakfast rotated too much. I enjoyed the Nepalese dishes a lot on our first morning, paratha with chick pea curry.
Hotel is in very crowded area but rooms and courtyard very quiet and peacefull. Hotel staff very helpfull expecially Ms Sona at receiption. Thanks to her.
Breakfast is very weak.
Central location yet very quietComfortable bed, hot shower with good pressureSpacious with characterCourtyard bar/restaurantFriendly helpful staff
My room felt very cozy and comfortable and quiet. The staff is incredibly nice and accommodating. The gym was a nice little surprise and the dinner was very yummy. Dahl bat and chicken satay!
Breakfast wasn’t exceptional and I wasn’t able to figure out the television so, better tips with the TV would've been helpful.
Excellent upmarket hotel in Kathmandu. Great breakfast. Large stylish rooms . Quiet location. Close enough to central Thamel. .
Nothing to dislike .
Exceptionally clean. Convenient location. Excellent price points
None! Love it
Beautiful and nicely decorated hotel which was very clean. Everything felt quite new, crisp and well maintained. My room had great natural light (more than the photos show!) and was spacious. Excellent location, quiet and helpful staff. Wish I could have stayed longer!
Nothing!
The rooms are super comfortable and well designed. Staff were fantastic and very kind and helpful
